Want to check out a hipster hangout in Shaw? Try Table. The food is good, although not great, and the service is nice, albeit somewhat leisurely. Wine list is interesting, and they even chill your bottle of pinot on a semi-warm night without asking. So even if you’re not a hipster – and we’re obvious pretenders – it’s a fun place to hang out.
First off, we love the decor. Table is set in a revamped garage of sorts, great space, with a roof deck (no, we didn’t check it out). When we went for dinner, it was a nice springish evening. Of course, sitting next to the open kitchen was fun and interesting, but even with the huge kitchen fans, it was still a tad warmish.
I loved the hand written wine list, and I wished we had more time to explore. Lots of fun, interesting wines … And when our server offered to chill our pinot to keep it at the right temperature in the coolish/warmish summer evening, G might have been very happy.
My arctic char was good and filling, great local squashes and local vegetables, crisped skin and perfectly cooked. I think that dish was the perfect lens for the restaurant – well done, great local ingredients and nice portion sizes, friendly service, fun local experience.
