You’ve never been to Nora? But you live right around the corner.
Yes, well … So after years of living within a stone’s throw of Nora we are finally going there to check it out for ourselves. Years – decades – after it’s been open, years after it’s the hot (or cool) place to be, we will drag ourselves over there.
I don’t know why we never wanted to go there. Maybe because when we first moved to DC in the early 90’s, Nora was the cool place to be. Real, locally-grown organic produce. What a concept. Except back then, it was quite avant-garde.
Of course back then, I was probably thinking who are these fools who pay $30 for chicken. To be fair, I was also broke then and could live off $30 for a week – or more if I was eating at happy hour specials and going to after work receptions.
I think back then Bill Clinton and his crew went to Nora all the time. But that would be like crashing Tosca now just to seem part of the in-crowd. Of course, more recently, Michelle Obama has been sighted at Nora. I guess it’s still a trendy place for politicos.
Does it live up to the hype? We shall see.
