Cliffmas in Philly, But Bad Time to Buy in Vegas

We’re heading to Vegas next week, and I’m starting to think about what to bring, what I need, etc., but also about sports futures.  This past Spring, when a colleague went to Vegas, I asked him to put down a few bets for me.  And here are the two tickets – they were still stuffed into my desk – how quaint do these look now?  The Phillies didn’t make it to the World Series, and the Capitals didn’t even make it out of the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs….

Sports futures that went pfft

I would do another bet on the Phillies, but now is probably not the time to buy.  With the (re)addition of Cliff Lee, it’s not only Cliffmas, the Phillies are now the odds-on favorite to win the World Series.  Better start saving now to buy G tickets in October/November …

Sadly, now probably IS the right time to buy for the Caps.  Slump continues, articles about getting a new goalie, firing Bruce Boudreau, etc., are proliferating like, well, nuclear material after the fall of the Soviet Union.  Let’s see what Vegas oddsmakers have to say about the Caps.  Right now, fans don’t seem to be buying it.
