A Little Tonic for the Soul

Tonic at Quigley's Pharmacy

My friend and I were looking for a place to go for a drink and snack before heading to see Interpol at Constitution Hall.  Problem is, it’s kinda in the middle of nowhere …. We ended up at Tonic, on the corner of 21st and G on GW’s campus.  I was a little worried it would be too college-y, but it wasn’t.

We liked it.  Great space, with a cozy feeling, but relatively spacious bar.  TVs with the Caps game, soccer, ESPN and whatever other sporting event was on.  We took two end seats at a longish table, where a couple sat at the other end – it was the only open space.  A couple of beers and a plate of fried oysters later, we were warm and happy, ready to head to our show.

As Mel said, it has the cool vibe of a college bar, without the college kids.  At least not at 7:30 on a Wednesday.  Now that I think of it, the place is probably filled with locals and grad students until say 10:00 pm, then it’s empty until the college students start dropping by around midnight.

Next time I’m in that part of town, I’ll have to keep Tonic in mind.  Definitely soothes the soul.
