World Cup Fever Takes Washington

World Cup in Dupont Circle

In case you haven’t noticed, the World Cup has kicked off.

On Friday, I saw two rather large middle age guys wearing England soccer jerseys walk out of Baja Fresh.  Inside, flags for Brazil, Argentina and other countries had been hung on the walls.  The televisions were tuned to ESPN as well.  On my way back to work, I saw an elderly man wearing a t-shirt with the Cup on it.  My colleagues at work were streaming the games in the afternoon, and it seemed like *everyone* was tweeting it.

This morning walking the dogs in Dupont Circle, I saw lots of soccer jerseys, and people streaming into Sette to watch games.  Later, I plan to go to Dupont Circle to check out the big screen televisions set up for public viewing.  Meanwhile, I’m eating breakfast, watching Argentina vs. Nigeria and tracking the game on Twitter.

Is the US finally getting soccer?
