It’s not that I didn’t think the Caps would lose in the Stanley Cup playoffs, but I would have preferred if they hadn’t lost game 1 at home. Alas.
Lots of talk about what went wrong game 1. Bottom line, not quite sure. Ovi needs to raise his game, but he knows it – I’m not worried. Top lines need to play better … Everyone elevates their game for the playoffs, same goes for the top team in the league.
Surprising bright spots:
- Theo played well. After all the angst about who was starting … Theo was solid and looked to be in control. I think he plays best when he’s challenged, and maybe the prospect of thumping his old team was enough to keep him focused.
- Third and fourth lines upped their games. Steckel didn’t score – this time. But these are the games when he really comes to play. Bradley also had some good chances. Third line looked speedy, with newcomers Chimera and Belanger rushing around the ice.
- Rookie played well. Carlson looked good, comfortable. He was joining on the rush, but covering his defensive duties as well. A good sign for the blueline – if only Green would settle down a bit.
As for game two, the puck drops in a few hours, so we’ll see.
Good news for me is that my parents seem to have Versus, so I’ll still be able to watch 🙂
