What’s the last time you went to a BYOB restaurant in DC? I know, right? Does that even exist – a Bring Your Own Beer/Wine restaurant in Washington?
In Philadelphia, they’re practically on every block. From the smallest dive with a handful of cramped tables to a fancy restaurant for that special occasion. Most recently, I tried Lolita, which had BYOT sign out front for bring your own tequila. An adorable Mexican restaurant with terrific small plates. And a delicious grilled salmon on top of pureed hearts of palm – who even knew one could puree hearts of palm?
It’s telling that a search for “BYOB” turns up BYOB Philadelphia as an option. But no DC.
Is it a way around antiquated blue laws? A way to bypass City Hall payoffs? Who knows? But it’s a great deal for the restaurant goers – in other towns.
