Hat Trick for Ovie

Close game — and a little too close at the end — but can’t stop the Great 8.

Of course, again Steckel was big —  the big unexpected goal to tie after Crosby’s two.  Then Steckel drawing a penalty on what would be Ovechkin’s second goal, the power play goal.

Best part of Ovie’s third goal:

…. Ovechkin leaping into the glass
…. Caps teammates rushing the Great 8
…. Verizon Center errupting in deafening cheers and showering hats

Priceless – Gonchar backing down in front of #8, eyes wide with futility

Of course, some of us can remember Gonchar, all by himself, puck bouncing stupidly, slowly, oh so clumsily over his stick, right to the Pen’s Straka who doesn’t make a mistake.

Fitting.
